Automation Engineer

As a Senior Automation Engineer for Commissioning and Service Desk, you will support our technicians in commissioning the correct functioning of upgrades and conversions. You will do this either on site at the customer’s premises or remotely. In addition, you will support customers at the service desk and thus make a significant contribution to customer satisfaction. Through extensive training in our training center, as well as regular training courses for new machines and services, you will represent Uhlmann as a competent contact person on site at our customers’ premises or by telephone. As a result, you will play a key role in customer loyalty and the smooth running of our customers’ processes, ensuring our high-quality standards and competitiveness in the long term.


  • Carrying out international service assignments for software commissioning on our packaging machines
  • Remote support for our customers and service technicians during troubleshooting or conversions
  • Troubleshooting of machine malfunctions with measuring equipment and software tools
  • Service desk in 2nd and 3rd level support, sometimes also in shifts
  • Advising customers on maintenance, functions and machine upgrades

Required knowledge:

  • Several years of experience in programming, commissioning and maintenance of machines in mechanical and plant engineering industry both at home and abroad
  • Good knowledge of PLC, servo and HMI controls, ideally programmed according to IEC61131-3 on Codesys platform (e.g. Schneider Electric)
  • Good knowledge of troubleshooting field busses and networks
  • Good knowledge of technical english, knowledge of German may be a plus

Qualification / degree:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in electrical engineering, automation technology or mechatronics.
  • Ideally completed vocational training as a mechatronics technician, electronics technician or in mechanical engineering.

  • Structured and analytical software functions Knowledge, behaviors, attitudes and even skills that lead to the ability to do something successfully or efficiently. The ability to make business decisions would be a competency. Skill: Learned and applied abilities that use one’s knowledge effectively in execution or performance.
